Gritty, moody, bluesy and soulful are the words that have been used to describe Here All Along by Bryan Ford featuring Ava Fain. Bryan Ford, co-owner of Revolutionary Music, wrote and played every instrument on this gorgeous song (guitar, bass, slide guitar and drums). He also wrote the lyrics to which Ava Fain (Bumpus, Lake Street Project) lends her strong and passionate voice. A video is on the way.

K Ford aka Kevin Ford offers a solid peak-hour underground house mix of Here All Along. K Ford has remixed artists such as Nate James and Backseat Bingo in addition to writing original music for his many other projects like Elv8tor, Chicago Afrobeat Project, Acid O.G.s and VOLT MODZ.

Goulet, who has been performing live with Bryan Ford (as Bryan Ford & Goulet) dropped a white hot remix on us that stays downtempo but pushes the envelope with sick synth lines, a funky cut-up of the vocal over a beat that is reminisent of the ill hyphy clap that made us fall in love with Oakland.

We asked Sergio de Blanc of the infamous Champagne Brothers to give us something with pop appeal. He did just that. His rendition of Here All Along has that champagne drenched hip-hop sound that anyone who has every been to a Chamagne Brothers show has been craving ever since.

Bryan Ford himself rounds out the remixes with an uber funky eastern floor filler complete with tablas and a hot vocal cut up. This one is gonna get the party started – right….

Lake Street Collective presents the Beat Maven Launch Party

On Friday, April 2nd, the Lake Street Collective returns to Chicago’s Darkroom to celebrate the official launch of BeatMaven.com, a new electronic music podcast network that offers up hours upon hours of streaming and downloadable electronic DJ mixes. The party will be broadcast live on BeatMaven.com and will feature the turntable stylings of Jugoe (Bastard Jazz Recordings/Cleveland), a live performance from the tech funk duo VOLT MODZ (Revolutionary Music) and DJ performances from DJ Striz (illmeasures) and Ryan Scott & Filip D. aka twoDeep. As always, Revolutionary Music and illmeasures, the crews behind the Lake Street Collective, promise to bring the underground loft party vibe to the Darkroom dance floor. Their last party at Darkroom was massive!

After a short hiatus from the music scene, Brooklyn’s Bastard Jazz Recordings Artist, Jugoe is once again ready to invade your space. In the studio, his sounds tend to lean toward the more chill, abstract dub vibe – but as a DJ, he has a “no categories” policy – playing everything from glitch to afrobeat and everything in between. Having performed along such tastemakers as Diplo, ?uestlove, Bassnectar, Mr Scruff, Quantic, DJ Krush, RJD2 and dozens more, this Cleveland native / Chicago transplant knows how to keep a dance floor interesting. Elev8tor headlines Darkroom 7 Year Anniversary Bash

Elev8tor is a band you are going to hear a lot about this year.  They have multiple releases scheduled to drop in 2010 from Chicago’s Revolutionary Music imprint.  This Friday they are headlining Darkroom’s 7 Year Anniversary party.  Last Saturday, label mates Bryan Ford & Goulet rocked a full house at Darkroom.  Odds are that this week will bring the same energy and then some due to it being the venue’s anniversary party.  Don’t miss this show!

Kevin Ford, the keys player and band leader for the wildly popular nationally touring Afrobeat band – the Chicago Afrobeat Project, has done it again with his newest project – Elev8tor.  This new project fuses electronic and organic music together creating everything from soul dub to disco to downtempo to nu jazz and beyond.  Sam Sharp, drummer for J Davis Trio, anchors the heavy rhythms which are accented by ultra phat bass lines from bassist extraordinaire Olin Langley.   Bryan Ford (Bryan Ford & Goulet), a revered multi-intrumentalist is the newest member of the ensemble – stepping in to play guitar.  Kevin Ford plays an array of synths, organs and samples while Darcy Markham pulls it all together with her amazing voice.

Next weekend, to ice the cake, Bombay Beatbox (DJ Warp, Radiohiro) and Get Up With The Get Down (James Brown Tribute Band) will also be performing. It’s a long time coming to share the bill with Bombay Beatbox and we’re psyched to finally come together for our 1st Chicago performance with these legendary reps of the ‘Asian Massive’ Breaks sound. They’ve performed along with heavyweights such as Karsh Kale and other world music giants. You may have seen them individually as Radiohiro, or Matt Fusello (also of Radiohiro and MC Zulu), and DJ Warp–a.k.a. Brian Keigher. Long time friend Izzy’s band (Get Up With The Get Down) has been building a loyal following in the city and is sure to bring some heavy, driving funk to the evening in addition.

It’s going to be an intense night of music all around, not to mention a rare performance by CAbP in Chi-town, so dont miss it! $12 for 3 bands (in advance). Show starts at 9:30PM. Get your advance tickets online!
