Jeremiah Seraphine and Lee Jarvis set to take it deep at Martini Ranch January 20th

Lee Jarvis and I (Jeremiah Seraphine) are kicking off a new deep house collaboration tomorrow night at Martini Ranch. We will be working together to bring our unique take on deep house to venues around Chicago. Tomorrow night we’ll be visiting Whatever Wednesdays with residents Gerald Moore and Dysqo.

Many of you know Lee Jarvis from his impressive discography on labels such as Lost My Dog, 4Kenzo, 1200 Traxx, Trendy Mullet, Fazed Music and Revolutionary Music (as Earl Jives). He also ran one of London’s hottest jackin’ house nights right up until he moved to Chicago. His party, called Moochin, showcased artists such as Joey Youngman, the Littlemen, Quirk Burglars, Massimo Dacosta and our own Shifty Johnson to name a few. He has certainly established himself at the forefront of the global jackin’ house community. Mr. Jarvis now plans to explore the deeper shades of house further than he ever has before.

I have just started DJing again using my real name – Jeremiah Seraphine. For the past seven years I’ve been using an alter ego to explore different sounds – jackin’ house, tech house, minimal, fidget. I’ve continued to collect and play deep house – keeping true to my roots, but only at intimate gatherings on my roof deck or private parties.

This collaboration with Mr. Jarvis is exciting because I’m able to bring the experience of the last seven years to bear on the concept of deep house music. Those of you who were around in the early days of 3 Degrees, when I was a deep house DJ, will surely hear something familiar in this new groove. And those who’ve come to know my style over the last seven years will also hear similarities. The style is sexy, groovy and smooth with a little bit of funk to keep it interesting. The tracks we’ve been selecting for this project are by producers who pay unusual attention to the production quality of every element.

I know I’ve written quite a bit just to introduce a Wednesday night gig, but we are excited for this new take on an old adventure -spinning deep house. So, you are now formally invited to join us, Lee Jarvis and myself, for the first of many deep house sets in Chicago. January 20th we will be at Martini Ranch from midnight until 4am. Elev8tor headlines Darkroom 7 Year Anniversary Bash

Elev8tor is a band you are going to hear a lot about this year. They have multiple releases scheduled to drop in 2010 from Chicago’s Revolutionary Music imprint. This Friday they are headlining Darkroom’s 7 Year Anniversary party. Last Saturday, label mates Bryan Ford & Goulet rocked a full house at Darkroom. Odds are that this week will bring the same energy and then some due to it being the venue’s anniversary party. Don’t miss this show!

Kevin Ford, the keys player and band leader for the wildly popular nationally touring Afrobeat band – the Chicago Afrobeat Project, has done it again with his newest project – Elev8tor. This new project fuses electronic and organic music together creating everything from soul dub to disco to downtempo to nu jazz and beyond. Sam Sharp, drummer for J Davis Trio, anchors the heavy rhythms which are accented by ultra phat bass lines from bassist extraordinaire Olin Langley. Bryan Ford (Bryan Ford & Goulet), a revered multi-intrumentalist is the newest member of the ensemble – stepping in to play guitar. Kevin Ford plays an array of synths, organs and samples while Darcy Markham pulls it all together with her amazing voice.

Bryan Ford & Goulet to headline Lake Street Collective Anniversary Bash on January 9th

(Chicago, IL) Bryan Ford & Goulet might just be the next big thing to emerge from Chicago’s rich music scene. The trio of Bryan Ford (guitar, slide guitar, drums), Goulet (bass, keys, Moog) and the newly added Ryan Murphy (percussion, drums) play a continuous mix of electro-organic music, jumping from instrument to instrument, belting our phat grooves ranging from mid-tempo broken beat to disco to house – all original music. They’ve rocked every show to date including an opening slot for the legendary Amp Fiddler at the 2009 Silver Room Block Party.

Ryan Murphy is a solid new addition to the group. He has played drums and/or percussion for Poi Dog Pondering, J Davis Trio, Moto and Vee Dee.

Lake Street Collective

The band is signed to the Chicago based label Revolutionary Music and currently has a single available entitled Here All Along by Bryan Ford feat. Ava Fain. The band performs the Swank Mix and the Goulet Mix live. They have more music coming our on the forthcoming compilation album, Revolutionary Music presents Organica Lounge.

They celebrate their 1 year anniversary on January 9th at Darkroom. Chicago Afrobeat Project at Martyrs

On Saturday, December 19, Chicago Afrobeat Project will be performing at Martyrs’ on 3855 N. Lincoln Ave. in Chicago after a full Summer and Fall of extensive national touring. We’ve hit both coasts in the last several months and the band has solidified during the dozens of live shows.

Next weekend, to ice the cake, Bombay Beatbox (DJ Warp, Radiohiro) and Get Up With The Get Down (James Brown Tribute Band) will also be performing. It’s a long time coming to share the bill with Bombay Beatbox and we’re psyched to finally come together for our 1st Chicago performance with these legendary reps of the ‘Asian Massive’ Breaks sound. They’ve performed along with heavyweights such as Karsh Kale and other world music giants. You may have seen them individually as Radiohiro, or Matt Fusello (also of Radiohiro and MC Zulu), and DJ Warp–a.k.a. Brian Keigher. Long time friend Izzy’s band (Get Up With The Get Down) has been building a loyal following in the city and is sure to bring some heavy, driving funk to the evening in addition.

It’s going to be an intense night of music all around, not to mention a rare performance by CAbP in Chi-town, so dont miss it! $12 for 3 bands (in advance). Show starts at 9:30PM. Get your advance tickets online!

This organization was founded by two midwestern visionaries who saw a dire need for a medical clinic and children’s school to be established in the little village of Umuagwo & Owerri in Nigeria. Support a good cause while drinking comped vodka cocktails, eating comped appetizers and listening to the sounds of Revolutionary Music’s Jeremiah Seraphine. I will be making a rare weekday DJ appearance at Whatever Wednesdays at Martini Ranch on November 11th. I’ll be spinning deep house and house from midnight – 2am. I can’t help but feel a bit nostalgic because it will be almost 10 years to the day from when I launched the very first 3 Degrees party across the street at Side Car Cafe (now the Baba Palace) in November of 1999 along with Julian Clark, Monna Samuka, Julius Spates, Bobby Kasami and Dell Dyson. Ahhh the memories. I’ll be strapped with vinyl from my 3 Degrees days as well as some modern day gems. If you were around during the early days of 3 Degrees, come out and reconnect. Wow, 10 years! Gerald Moore and Dysqo are the resident DJs. Hope you can make it!
