Get your DJ mix sent to thousands of Revolutionary Music fans and subscribers!

We are now accepting entries for the Revolutionary Music DJ Mix Competition. If your mix is chosen, you will be featured on our web site and your mix will be sent via podcast to thousands of our fans and subscribers around the globe. To enter the competition you must do the following:

1. Record a continuous DJ mix between 45 minutes and 1 hour in length that includes at least one track from the Revolutionary Music catalog. Your mix can be any style.

2. Send us the Mix using the Revolutionary Music Sound Cloud Drop Box using this link or by going to the Revolutionary Music homepage.

3. Email jeremiah@revolutionarymusic.com with your DJ Name, Location, and the name of your mix.

4. DEADLINE for entries is February 1, 2010.

We will announce the winners and feature their mixes and profiles in March 2010 before we make the trip to Winter Music Conference in Miami Beach. We’re looking forward to hearing from you!

Shifty Johnson’s mix for Sirius XM satellite radio available for download

Back on May 13th Shifty Johnson appeared on the DJ Times Shortlist on Sirius XM radio to rock his signature blend of gritty tech funk and degenerate disco. Shifty Johnson’s identity was revealed to thousands of listeners even after the host was asked to keep it a secret. For most who were listening, it meant nothing. However, for those who were trying to keep two worlds from colliding it was the beginning of the end, an end which we have yet to see. Stay tuned, enjoy the mix and remember never to take yourself too seriously.

Revolutionary Music’s Shifty Johnson just returned from his pilgrimage to Ibiza for the closing parties. Just before he left he recorded this mix. It was to be aired on Ibiza Global Radio. There was a digital glitch in the copy he took with him, so their loss is our gain. This mix includes tracks by Asad Rizvi, Hakim Murphy, Shonky, Jesse Rose, Green Velvet, Wasted Chicago Youth, Claude Von Stroke, Detroit Grand Pubas and more. The last cut in the mix is Earl Jives’ Funkie Ass Junkie (VOLT MODZ Remix) which is available now on Revolutionary Music. The VOLT MODZ is Shifty Johnson’s new production moniker along with Kevin Ford of Acid O.G.’s fame.

Shifty Johnson & Sista Stroke Free DJ Mix Ready to Download

On Wednesday May 20th, DJ Shifty Johnson appeared on Sista Stroke’s Brick City House show on ChicagoHouseFM.com. He dropped a sick set of tech house and house with elements of electro, minimal and fidget house worked in. This show is now available as a free download and podcast at SistaStroke.Podomatic.com. Shifty’s set begins about halfway into the recording. Sista Stroke drops a rockin’ set of house music first. Between sets, Sista Stroke interviews Shifty. We were impressed and shocked at how well behaved he was during the interview. He must have been sedated.

DJ Times Magazine announces Shifty Johnson’s upcoming set on Sirius XM Radio

The DJ Times Shortlist, the DJ Times Magazine show on Sirius XM Radio Channel 38, announced that Shifty Johnson’s DJ mix will air on Wednesday May 13th, 2009 at 11pm Eastern Time. The show will be broadcast globally simultaneously. Past guests on the show have included Deadmau5, James Zabiela, Mistress Barbara and Dimitri from Paris. John Tejada is a guest on the show the week after Shifty Johnson.

Needless to say we are all very excited that Shifty’s mix was chosen. The mix was actually recorded and submitted a number of months ago. So most of the tracks have been out for quite some time. The following is the tracklisting…

Shifty Johnson DJ mix to air on Sirius XM Radio

Shifty Johnson’s DJ style has been evolving quite rapidly since he joined the ranks of Revolutionary Music back in 2004. His sets used to be entirely jackin’ house music whereas now they incorporate minimal techno, fidget house and tech house to produce a hybrid sound of bass laden jackin’ tech funk. Since the Safe House closed Shifty has been rocking this new style at various spots around Chicago and it has been developing into something quite unique, and we like it! We aren’t the only ones taking notice. The DJ Times Shortlist show on Sirius XM Radio’s Area Channel have picked up one of his mixes and scheduled it to air during one of the first two Wednesdays in May.

The Area Channel features shows by some of the world’s most renowned DJs such as Carl Cox, Robbie Rivera, George Acosta, Tiësto, Paul Van Dyk, Benny Benassi and Ferry Corsten to name a few. After the merger between Sirius Satellite Radio and XM Satellite Radio, the Area channel replaced The Move which featured shows by Little Louie Vega, Charles Feelgood, Carl Cox and John Digweed. Having a mix selected to air on this channel is quite an honor to say the least.

Shifty Johnson’s mix includes two tracks which Revolutionary Music plans to release in 2009. One is by K Ford and the other is by Ryan Scott. Other tracks in the mix are from producers such as Tim Green, Jesse Rose, Lee Mortimer, The Martin Brothers and Johnny Fiasco.

This is a mix I threw together from my collection of funk, soul, funky jazz and rare groove. The Fatback Band kicks it all off and the mix ends with Issac Hayes. I picked some of my favorite heavy grooves from Herbie Handcock, Poets of Rhythm and others. If you dig the funky side of jazz and vintage soul then I think you’ll really dig this dj mix.

While DJ Goulet has been in Texas he’s been getting more and more into the various flavors of house music. This DJ mix showcases his skills and an emerging style of fusing house music, breaks, electro and tech house. There is no doubt that Chicago has left its mark on Goulet.
